Platform Team Leader
Role and Responsibilities :- Primary
Motivate and support a team of Platform Engineers and Architects to deliver key projects to aggressive time scales.
Lead the creation of enterprise level technical documentation for every project worked on.
In conjunction with Network Operations, lead the creation of technical support documentation for every project worked on.
Own and deliver the technical roadmap for PlusNet platforms within agreed timescales.
Supervise and mentor team members to ensure productivity and to communicate development and training needs.
Represent the Platform team for projects and liaise with other departments to ensure their well-timed delivery.
Investigate, document, debug and performance test any changes to PlusNet's core infrastructure.
Configure and deploy systems hardware and software to project-based technical specifications in an accurate, resilient and timely manner, ensuring as few issues as possible.
Ensure infrastructure design is simple, resilient, scalable, reliable, modular and as secure as possible and performs within benchmarks outlined in project specifications.
Participation in On-Call rota in event of Major Service effecting issue.
Follow formal testing procedures, and ensure that all changes have a formal, agreed testing plan.
Ensure that change controls are performed using the agreed formal processes.
Provide team level KPI's to the Head of Network Development on a daily basis.
Provide assistance and input for each team member's appraisals.
Ensure that your team's timesheets are completed, accurate and submitted on time each month.

Essential Skills
Linux (preferably Debian).
Sun Solaris (preferably version 10).
SAN and NAS storage (preferably Netapp).
Dell, HP or Sun hardware experience.
Significant experience of systems operations or development within an ISP environment.
Ability to line manage, mentor and lead a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
Ability to prioritise numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
Ability to work in or out of hours if required.
Strong cross-functional thinking.
Strong organisational skills, able to work under time pressure.
Understanding of the network and software development process.
Able to produce high quality technical documentation.
Desirable Skills
In depth knowledge of common ISP applications (Apache, PHP, MySQL, Oracle, JBoss, Tomcat, Radius, Exim, Nagios, Bind).
Strongly experienced in application configuration and deployment including shell scripting, packaging and Perl.
Experience of data centre best practice for availability and resilience.
Background of practical security within design.
Cisco, Juniper and Ellacoya networking.
